In June 2013, the top 10 popular stocks in the equity diversified category remained nearly the same as the previous month. ICICI Bank Ltd. continued to be the most favoured stock by fund managers, even though the scrip was among the most sold during the month of June. Out of the 133 schemes which invested in the company during the month, 99 schemes maintained an exposure above 5% in June.

On the contrary, at the end of May as many as 106 schemes maintained an exposure of over 5% in ICICI Bank Ltd. Infosys Ltd. and Reliance Industries Ltd. were the next most popular stocks with investments from 121 and 120 schemes, respectively.

Reliance Industries Ltd. stood next to ICICI Bank Ltd. in terms of concentrated bets, with 70 schemes having an exposure of more than 5%. The latest portfolio also reveals that Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (HDFC) has emerged as a new entrant into the list, due to large purchases by funds in June 2013.

The company replaced Bharti Airtel Ltd. among the top 10 most popular stocks. A total of 42 out of 97 schemes invested in HDFC, maintained an exposure above 5% while, only 1 scheme accounted for investment above 10% into the company.

Unique Stocks

The latest portfolios show that a total of 107 domestic unique scrips were bought in the equity diversified category, in June. Reliance Mutual Fund, one out of the 24 mutual fund houses, which selected unique stocks during the month, alone picked 22 companies. Of these, Reliance Long Term Equity Fund and Reliance Small Cap Fund included six and five unique holdings in their portfolios, respectively. UTI Mutual Fund occupied the second position, with 19 unique stocks in its kitty, of which UTI ULIP alone included five unique holdings. The asset management companies, which followed next were SBI, DSP Blackrock and ICICI Prudential. While SBI Mutual Fund picked eight unique stocks, the other two fund houses included seven stocks each. DSP BlackRock Micro Cap Fund continued to pick the maximum number of unique companies (5).
